About this site

What is Moodle?

Moodle is a fully-featured, highly flexible open source Learning Management System (also known as  a Virtual Learning Environment).

Currently used in more than 230 countries with more than 260 million users worldwide, Moodle was first developed in 2001 by Martin Dougiamas based on the idea of providing teachers with the tools to create sequences of powerful activities to engage students in active collaborative learning.

Supported by a global network of certified Moodle Partners, Moodle HQ continues to work with developers and educators worldwide to support a fast growing community of Moodle users.

About Learn Moodle

Learn Moodle is the official Moodle website for delivering MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses).

Designed and developed by Moodle HQ,  the site aims to facilitate learning and collaboration to inspire better teaching everywhere.

The development of this site is sponsored by certified Moodle Partners, as is Moodle itself, and you can see their banners throughout this site. If you need Moodle support, hosting, custom development or any other services, then we encourage you to support Moodle by choosing a certified Moodle Partner to help you. You can also support Moodle by making a donation or purchasing an item from the Moodle shop.

For more on the background of this site, see "Why a Moodle MOOC?", written by Moodle Founder and Lead Developer, Martin Dougiamas.
